| I just looooooved the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. I thought allll of it was good. It was so big...and yet there was so much attention to detail. I especially liked the Drums in the beginning...and the wave of Titles were just reaaaally amazing. Thought it was computerized and mechanized....its just so amazing how everyone knew what to do, from within the tiles! The taiqi was crazy too....did u notice how the circle was sooo round. Chinese people are just amazing, haha
So some random stuff...
1) been listening to my disney playlist on my iPod a couple of times lately...and I"m not gonna lie, Beauty and the Beast has been stuck in my head. If you know the song, all i hear is the last part of the song..."beauty and...the...beast."
2)saw some pretty crazy news lately. There's this story from Canada of this guy who, w/o warning, attacked the guy sitting beside him on a bus (think Greyhound?) And then, after all the passengers ran off the bus, he decapitated the guy!!!!! And then, a few days after reading that story, i read another story of another decapitation. I was stunned and shocked. What made it worse was the apathy shown by the demeanor of the killer.
3)i also went to this seafood fair that this local community in north
seattle puts on called the Ballard's Seafood Fair...they have a bunch
of food venders close down the streets and set up shops, in addition to
selling merchandise. So there was this one booth, where they take your
blood pressure and you can also find out your cholesterol. So i did it,
found out that I was in very good health...and then promptly went off
to buy some heart-stopping, artery clogging, oily, greasy food. I think
I should put the pics on line...it was gooooood
4)Thought about some of the things I'm looking forward to, for the near future and the distant future. Def some stuff i'm looking forward to, like playing basketball again...and the fall semester. But I've determined...that from now, till the day I die, there are 3 things that I really really really look forward to and will be estatic when the day comes. They are:
1) wife 2) dog 3) kids
I look forward to those 3 things, that I really don't care what order they come in...wife, dog, kids....or dog, wife, kids...or wife, kids, dog...I'm just excited. Though, I guess the wife should come first before the kids huh....haha

| I wanted to be considerate to some people in my last entry, but since ling brought it up....those are lamb testicles in the shape of lamb testicles with real lamb testicle meat. hope that clarifies that for you ling...
as for other people...i have a red couch (not black leather) so (-1)...i know some hot and colds food and that it has to do with the yin and yang for medical purposes but i dont know too many of them (i'll give myself a neutral 0 on that...+1 and -1 equals out, haha)...i know feng shui (+1) but as to why its referred to as wind water, who knows? haha...crazy chinese people...I'm not good at mahjong (-1), .i dont like gambling with real money (-1), I don't like smoking (-1), I dont' like spitting on the floor of the bus (-25) nor hawking up a loogie on the bus (-100)...i dont' like pulling my shirt up a bit and slapping my stomach in the summer, and I dont and will not eat cho dofu...which those are like minus a gazillioin points
guess i still have a long ways to go before I become really chinese

| so, it doesn't look like anyone, cept Bill Simon and person 1, 2 and 3 know the answer...so i think I might email my english teachers....if they remember me, haha
So i was on my month visit back in time via xanga when I came across this from freshman year. These were reasons as to why I was not "azn." Now, 4 years later...lets see how I'm doing.
-ping pong game is lacking (tho i think its improving...i think) I'm not great at ping pong, but i am definitely better now. I can't claim equality with the great asians of the world, but i think i can claim that im good enough to play. Check.
-not big on techno music (cept for Heaven by DJ Sammy and Yanou feat) Still not big on techno
-don't drive a very nice car (i drive a 89 Honda Accord) I don't drive any car now...
-not great at chess Still not good at chess
-don't excel at math or science I have no idea whether I excel...but, since I have had a math class since fall of senior year of high school...and i've only taken easy science classes here at PSU, I think its safe to say that I still don't excel at either
-don't play badminton (nor can i spell it lol) During my stay in China, I was introduced and have enjoyed playing badminton. Thanks to my semi-athletic abilities, I was able to more than hold my own. Now, I just need to develop skills to become better. We can give this one a check.
-not planning on being a doctor, research or scientist... yea, plans still have not changed
-not big on authentic, real azn food (not referring to the good, oily americanized chinese food here) After going to China, I am ok with 99.9% of Chinese food. I have eatten squid, snake, worm cacoon, and lamb balls...and its safe to say, that I enjoy almost anything Chinese people throw at me....cept for blood tofu, haha. Check
-don't speak chinese I speak Chinese now...sorta. I assume that I've regressed since being in China, but I speak...sorta. I'm giving myself a check
*Edit* and i don't watch anime or play Final Fantasy......any of them...dun dun duuuuuuun Still don't play FF or watch anime...although, I just watched Batman: Gothom Knight, an anime version of Batman...so I sorta qualify? maybe not? And so...after 4 years...I go 4 for 10...I am slowly improving. haha
PS. After Chinese New Year, I also have gained an appreciation for Chinese Opera...so that's gotta be bonus points, rite? haha

| So, I was going through some things and I came across this...before, i just brushed it off, but now...i can't get it out of my head...i'm gonna be thinking about it all the time if I don't get it resolved...so let me know what you guys think...also, if someone knows an online english grammar thing that can resolve this or some authority higher than us college kids haha, that can solve this, that would be great...
So here it is...is it "meant" or "mean?"
**************************************************
Person 1: my shirt looks memorizing and/or hypnotizing
Person 2: you meant mesmerizing?
Me: you mean " you MEAN mesmerizing?" ?
Person 2: isn't meant the past tense of mean?
Person 3: well, what I think is that both of you are correct. Using "meant" is
correct in the sense that (Person 1) had posted the comment previously and
so meant is the past tense of mean, but if (that person) intended to speak about
it in the present, then (that person) could use "mean." So it all goes back to
what the author intended, which i think is the former, so I think it is
meant.... sorry dennis.
(Skipped a few ppl's comments that have nothing to do w/ the issue at hand...)
Me: hmm, actually, i think its like this:
if Person 2 is using it as a statement, its past tense " You meant mesmerizing, not memorizing"
if Person 2 is asking Person 1, it should present tense " You mean mesmerizing?"
and i think its like that bc when its a statement, its referring to the past, thus "meant".
but
when you are asking them a question, u have technically have a helping
verb "to do" at the beginning of the question (we just normally take it
out to shorten the sentence) so that the helping verb becomes past
tense and the regular verb is present...thus "DID you MEAN....?", with
did as the past tense.
***************************************
PS. some comments were taken out bc they had no bearing on the issue at hand...otherwise this conversation is verbatum 99.9% (Besides additionally ppl's comments, I took out two sentences from my quotes).
PSS. People's names were taken out anonmynity and protection so that this doesn't turn into something bad...tho if you wish to name yourself or give yourself away, I can't stop you from doing that
I'm sure ur prob wondering...Why doesn't he just let this go? Is he just trying to prove that he's right?
Welp, my answer to that is...sorta, haha...i felt like i put up some good arguments that weren't answered, I would like to be vindicated...so half of it is to prove that I was right and half to get to the truth...i'm honestly interested in the correct answer, haha....so i guess i'm half egotistic and half not...if that's possible

| - I heard about this Instant Messenger program called Digsby..and I love it. It has similar features to Pidgin, but more. I always thought pidgin was a bit plain in the background...Digsby's got some great skins. You can talk to ppl who are on other IM programs (like aim, MSN, etc)...I can have multiple sn up, like my aim, MSN and yahoo. I can do video with this and...i think best of all, you can add email accounts and social networks to it. That means that I can see how many new emails i get from my Digsby buddy list...and see if something was done to my fb (message, wall post, pictures, etc). Its pretty schweeet...its funny cuz my boss was talking about unified communications and then I came home and found this program that was pretty much what he was talking about, ha.
oh...and i just right now found this out...it does spell check too! I'm not sure if other programs do that, but this is schweet...it just gets better and better. I'm fully expecting this thing to make me money out of nowhere...
-just watched some of the most amazing fireworks that i've ever seen.
Usually, the fire show at Long's Park in Lancaster isn't too
bad...brings out a big crowd and whatnot...but the one I saw in seattle
(on tv) was freaking amazing..it was so well coordinated with the
music...i loved it
-I just seem to get away from new languages. When I was really young, I lived in taiwan for a year and learned chinese...only to find that when I got back to the US, i was surrounded my caucasians, so i had to learn english. In college, instead of being surrounded my white ppl/friends, I became surrounded by yellow ppl/friends and found that knowing Chinese would be nice. In the summer during the summer, I worked at HM Stauffer ( my roofing job) that had a lot of spanish speakers...and it made me felt a bit dumb and wish that I had studied harder in my spanish class in HS. Finally, after going to China and upping my Chinese comprehension level a bit, I come back to the US where I'm living w/ my aunt and uncle for 1.5 months...AND they speak canto! then to top it off, went to dinner with them and my uncle's sister's family and they spoke canto...so for most of the dinner, I'm just trying to fit canto phrase with what i think sounds like mando.....Its like once I learn a language, I've gotta learn a new one all over! So its settled, I finished English...I'm working on Mando...Canto is next and after Canto, if I have time, I'd like to learn Black.
